ATTENTION ALL SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS!
Would you like to get away this summer, to get a taste of college life, to meet new friends AND to build your resume ALL at the same time???
Then Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW) is for you!! This is an exciting summer camp, held on the campus of Lycoming College or Penn College in Williamsport, PA, that allows you to work with a team of other students to run your own business, hear outstanding speakers and meet new friends.  Please visit their website a http://www.pfew.org/

Susquehanna University – Summer Leader Institute for Entrepreneurship

Susquehanna University invites business-minded students to apply for this summer’s Leadership Institute for Entrepreneurship (LIFE) held July 6-12.  This one-week program brings students from across the country to live on a 325-acre campus and purse their interest in business with faculty and well-established professionals from a variety of industries.  For more information about the program visit www.susqu.edu/LIFE

Gettysburg College – American Government Leadership Camp

This unique program is built on the tradition of the President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s commitment to public service and exemplary leadership attributes.

The college-level summer program is designed for highly motivated high school students (rising juniors and seniors) who have a passion for understanding American government and who wish to refine their leadership skills. The intensive program presents student leaders with challenging real-world situations and exposure to cutting edge political science scholarship. Participants attend college-level lectures, engage in small discussion sessions, and participate in debates and simulations. Students attend a field-trip to Washington D.C., interact with public policy leaders, and tour the historic Civil War battlegrounds of Gettysburg.

The week-long program takes place from June 29-July 6, 2014 at Gettysburg College.  Applicants to the program should have a demonstrated record of leadership, a strong academic record, and a sincere interest in deepening their understanding of American politics.

Penn State York – ArcelorMittal Program Information

On Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at 5:00 p.m., on the Penn State York campus, their Engineering Faculty will be providing a SWFTF (Steel Worker For The Future) Program Presentation. This program is open to students that may be interested in engineering programs offered at Penn State York coupled with a paid internship. Parents are also welcome.  See attached flyer.

HACC Criminal Justice Discovery Day

Criminal Justice Discovery Day at the HACC, Gettysburg Campus,  is Monday, March 3rd from 9am-1pm.  We provide lunch to all students that day.  RSVP at hacc.edu/gettysburg or contact Sara Ridley at slridley@hacc.edu if you have any questions.  They will have over 20 Criminal Justice Professionals from the community on campus to speak with students about their options in the field of Criminal Justice: US Border Patrol, US Marshall’s Service, Human Officer, Game Warden, and more!

Penn State York Open House and Daily Visits

Spring Open House on April 5 (9:00 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.)

Students learn about the admissions process, meet our faculty and students, investigate financial aid options, and tour our beautiful campus. They can explore the degree programs offered at Penn State York as well as our university-wide 2 +2 program, which affords students the opportunity to start in York and finish at another Penn State campus. Lunch is provided, including ice cream from Penn State’s famous Berkey Creamery.

Daily Campus Visits (10:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m.)

Students spend the morning at Penn State York to learn about the many advantages of becoming a Penn State student! Daily visits are held Monday – Friday,  and typically include an admissions presentation, campus walking tour, and a complimentary lunch in our Lion’s Den. (NOTE: the complimentary lunch is offered only during the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session).

Health Care Careers Night, Thursday February 20, 6:30-8:30 PM

The 2nd Annual Career Information Night will be held on February 20, 2013.  This year the focus will be on Health Care Careers.  The evening program will include a panel of individuals discussing their respective careers in Health Care,post-secondary institutions with programs in health care,  and the opportunity to ask individuals questions of those employed in health care careers.  Tentative plans are to have the following areas represented; Dentist and Dental Hygienist, Anesthetist and Nurse Anesthetist,  Nurse,  Family Physician, Respiratory Therapist,  Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, Lab Technician, Medical Records, Optometrist, Occupational Therapist, Dietician, Phlebotomist, Speech/Language Pathologist, Diagnostic Imaging, Audiologist, Athletic Trainer, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Social Worker.  For more information contact Mrs. Lisa Dennis, Career Counselor at 632-2548, ext. 21913.

FAFSA Resources

We would like to thank Carol Handlan from Pennsylvania Higher Education Association (PHEAA) for joining us last evening at the FAFSA workshop.  If you were unable to attend the event, Carol’s power point and handouts are attached for your convenience.  The FAFSA needs to be completed in order for your child to qualify for financial aid.  Please make sure you check the FAFSA deadline for each college.  You can find the deadline on the school’s financial aid website.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s guidance counselor.
