THE BRIDGE: COLLEGE PREP AND LEADERSHIP ACADEMY JULY 10-15, 2016

Program Details

If you are a rising high school junior or senior, The Bridge is designed to provide you with the best collegiate preparation experience in the world. By participating in The Bridge, you will be exposed to leadership development experience and college preparation workshops. Develop skills that will support your college application process and matriculation.

  • Upon arrival, you and your parents will be invited to meet program staff.
  • You will be put into groups of 10 which will be led by Academy Counselors. Academy Counselors are current undergraduate Pitt students.
  • Throughout the program, you will receive individualized skill training and exposure to college preparation materials.
  • Small group discussions will help you align your preferences with college programs, and develop a personal mission statement. The personal mission statement will be used to create a personal statement that can be used for college admissions essays.
  • Learn from staff and each other about the admissions process and enjoy the opportunity to meet with college admissions representatives, tour campus, and attend an informational session on financial aid.
  • Gain valuable experience and insight in the areas of leadership development, conflict management, diversity, creative problem-solving, and maximizing your college experience.
  • Meals will be provided, and each evening a social activity will take place on campus or at a local attraction.

Open to rising high school juniors and seniors, our Academy offers leadership development experience and college preparation workshops to provide the knowledge and skills needed to successfully navigate the college application process.* We have partnered with The Princeton Review to provide you with SAT/ACT test preparation and a practice test.

The Bridge program fee is $800. This fee covers room, meals, and social activities for July 10-15.  A $200 deposit is due at the time of registration, $100 of that is non-refundable.  The entire program fee must be paid by July 1, 2016.  No refunds for cancellations will be given after July 1, 2016.

All learners must sign up in the Counseling Office prior to the scheduled meetings.

English and Philosophy
Degree programs in literature, writing, pre-law and secondary education, as well as minors in English, creative writing, women’s studies and philosophy, prepare students for careers in such diverse fields as education, writing and editing, law, communications, business and much more. 

The Department of English and Philosophy prepares students to communicate effectively, organize ideas logically and develop persuasive arguments, providing its graduates with experience solving problems, analyzing complex information and conducting independent research. Degree programs in literature, writing, secondary education and a new pre-law concentration enrich students’ lives, teach them how to think clearly and write well, and prepare them for a variety of careers.

The Department offers courses in writing, literature and philosophy to students from all quarters of the campus. Its faculty is accomplished and helpful; its student majors bright and creative; its curricula challenging; its clubs and activities lively. Through intensive coursework, students hone their skills under the instruction of experienced faculty mentors. They also engage in internships and other professional activities, including presentation and publication of their work.  Graduates from EU’s English programs have gone on to succeed in graduate school and in careers as educators, editors, web developers, business owners, grant and technical writers, marketers, research associates and more.

Important information will be covered that will help you in working with your child as they prepare for senior year and their education beyond high school.

Classes meet on Saturday’s from 9 am – 1 pm and Wednesdays from 6 – 9 pm. You will have the opportunity to take 3 practice exams during the 35 hours of test prep work.
